DETROIT, Mich. — The Detroit Pistons will be without starting center Jalen Duren for at least the next two weeks after the team said he strained his right hamstring.
The 22-year-old got hurt in the second quarter of Friday night’s win over the Miami Heat at Kaseya Center, feeling pain in his right leg while working against Giannis Antetokounmpo. He left after logging only 10 minutes. The Pistons plan to re-evaluate him once the two-week window is up.
Losing Duren stings. He made his first All-Star team last season and landed on the All-NBA Third Team after averaging 19.5 points and 10.5 rebounds, and he signed a five-year, $200 million extension earlier this month. He was putting up 13 points and 7.5 rebounds a night through Detroit’s first two games.
Paul Reed figures to absorb most of the extra work at center, with John Collins and Tolu Smith also in line for more minutes in the frontcourt.
