NEW YORK, N.Y. — The Detroit Pistons take a perfect 3-0 record into Madison Square Garden on Tuesday night against a New York Knicks team still looking for its first win after an 0-3 start.
Detroit will be shorthanded. The team said Sunday that center Jalen Duren strained his right hamstring and gets another look from the medical staff in two weeks. He got hurt in the second quarter of Friday’s 128-111 win over the Miami Heat at Kaseya Center. Ausar Thompson is also out with an ankle injury, and guard Isaiah Joe is a game-time call with a hip problem.
The Pistons have not slowed down without them. Detroit controlled Sunday’s home win over Philadelphia, and backup guard Daniss Jenkins scored 18 points in a starting role.
Cade Cunningham remains the focal point, though ball security is a concern with 16 turnovers through three games. Duncan Robinson has been a hot hand from deep, hitting better than 53 percent of his 3-point tries on nearly 10 attempts a game.
New York will be without guard Jose Alvarado, who is nursing an ankle injury.
