A 38-year-old bow hunter was critically injured Saturday evening in Essex Township, Clinton County, after an errant round from nearby target shooting struck him in the chest, the Clinton County Sheriff’s Office said.
Deputies were called to a Lowe Road address around 5:50 p.m. and found the man in a hard-sided ground blind with a gunshot wound to the chest. He was taken to a hospital in critical condition.
Investigators said people were target shooting on a nearby property when a round left the target area and hit the hunter. The sheriff’s office called the shooting an isolated incident and said the investigation remains ongoing.
Essex Township sits about 30 miles north of Lansing. Officials have not released the hunter’s name while the case continues.
