Freedom Fuel, a gas station network promoted by President Donald Trump for discounted pump prices, has opened a second Metro Detroit location near McNichols and Third.
The new stop is near the Highland Park border at 820 W. McNichols Road. The network’s first Michigan station opened about a month earlier at Harper Avenue and Cadieux Road on Detroit’s east side.
Stations initially advertised regular gasoline at $3.47 a gallon, a nod to Trump as the 47th president. Freedom Fuel also operates more than 30 locations in New Jersey and Pennsylvania, with Detroit its only market outside those states.
Motorists at the new site have cited lower pump prices as a draw even as the branding remains politically charged for some drivers in Metro Detroit.
