Washington, D.C. — The Detroit Pistons erased a 20-point first-quarter deficit but fell 114-108 in overtime to the Washington Wizards on Saturday night at Capital One Arena in their second preseason game.
Washington led 40-20 after one quarter, shooting 60.9 percent from the field. Detroit answered with a 30-16 second quarter and held a 94-87 lead with about five minutes left in regulation before turnovers let the Wizards back in.
Isaac Jones tied the game with a reverse dunk with 11 seconds left in the fourth, and John Ukomadu helped force overtime. Paul Reed had 11 points and nine rebounds before fouling out. Tolu Smith finished with six points and 13 rebounds, eight on the offensive glass.
Daniss Jenkins and Trae Young were both ejected after a confrontation in the third quarter. Coach J.B. Bickerstaff said preseason is about giving two-way and fringe players a chance to earn minutes.
The Pistons played without Cade Cunningham and Jalen Duren. Their next preseason tune-up continues the exhibition schedule before the regular season.
