Glendale, Ariz. — The Detroit Lions defeated the Arizona Cardinals 45-21 at State Farm Stadium on Sunday, bouncing back with a complete performance before next week bye.
After a sluggish start with punts on their first three possessions, Detroit scored six touchdowns and a field goal on their next seven drives while improving to 3-2 on the season.
Running back Jahmyr Gibbs sparked the turnaround with a one-yard touchdown run that tied the game, a score that marked the 57th touchdown of his NFL career and tied Barry Sanders for the most by a player before turning 25.
Quarterback Jared Goff later hit tight end Sam LaPorta for a 38-yard touchdown on fourth-and-one and found wide receiver Jameson Williams for scoring catches of eight and 39 yards as the Lions built a 31-7 lead.
Detroit defense forced five consecutive Cardinals three-and-outs after Arizona opening touchdown, and kicker Jake Bates stayed perfect for the year on field goals and extra points in the road win.
Gibbs added a three-yard rushing touchdown in the fourth quarter and Goff capped a 74-yard drive with a one-yard sneak, sending the Lions into their Week 6 bye with momentum after last week loss to Carolina.
