Detroit Warmth Holds Through Thursday Showers, Then Dry Halloween

Published October 29, 2026 at 6:51 am | By Rene Hines, Staff Reporter

Storm clouds building over open country

DETROIT, Mich. — Detroit gets one more taste of late summer Thursday before a cold front knocks temperatures back toward normal in time for Halloween.

Highs should land in the lower to mid-70s, roughly 15 to 20 degrees warmer than usual for the end of October. Wednesday already marked the ninth day this month to hit 70.

The front brings a chance of showers in the afternoon and evening, and a stray rumble of thunder is possible. Rain will be spotty. Most neighborhoods should see a tenth of an inch or less, with a few places closer to a quarter inch.

Friday turns sunny and cooler, with highs dropping into the lower 60s. That is still a bit above average for the season.

Halloween on Saturday looks mostly cloudy but dry, with highs in the lower 60s. Temperatures will slide through the 50s while kids are out trick-or-treating, so a light jacket over the costume is a good idea. Readings in the 60s are expected to hang on into the middle of next week before cooler air arrives late in the week.
