DETROIT, Mich. — Detroit Tigers catcher Dillon Dingler is the best defensive catcher in the American League again. The Rawlings Gold Glove at his position went to him for a second year in a row when this season’s winners were named Sunday.
Only three other catchers in club history have won the award in back-to-back seasons: Pudge Rodriguez, Lance Parrish and Bill Freehan. Dingler is the first Tigers player to win multiple Gold Gloves since Rodriguez in 2007.
His defensive numbers backed it up. He was credited with 15 Defensive Runs Saved, 9 Framing Runs and a Fielding Run Value of 17. At the plate he hit 27 home runs and was worth 5 fWAR, though his hitting tailed off over the last two months after a strong first half.
Utility player Zach McKinstry was a finalist at his spot, but the award went to Ezequiel Duran of Texas. In the minor league honors, Triple-A second baseman Max Anderson took home minor league Gold Glove honors, the first for a Tigers prospect since Jace Jung in 2023.
Across baseball, the season wrapped up last week with Milwaukee winning its first World Series title, beating Tampa Bay in five games.
