DETROIT, Mich. — Wu-Tang Clan is coming to Ford Field for Thanksgiving. The Detroit Lions said Sunday that the New York rap group will headline the halftime show when the Lions host the Chicago Bears on Thursday, Nov. 26.
It will be the 87th edition of the team’s Thanksgiving Day Classic, with kickoff set for 1 p.m. Eastern. Grosse Pointe Woods native Antonio Cipriano, an actor and recording artist with Broadway credits, will sing the national anthem.
The booking is the second under a multi-year deal that has Eminem and his longtime manager Paul Rosenberg, president of Shady Records, picking the talent and serving as executive producers. Lions president and CEO Rich Haddad called the holiday game one of the great traditions in sports.
The group, which debuted in 1993, has put out eight group albums, three of them certified quadruple-platinum. Its Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction is scheduled for Nov. 14, and the Detroit date comes as Wu-Tang finishes its farewell world tour.
Last year, Detroit rocker Jack White played the Thanksgiving halftime show when the Lions faced Green Bay.
