CHARLOTTE, N.C. — The Detroit Pistons head to Charlotte for a 7:30 p.m. tipoff Monday against the Hornets, carrying a 5-1 record that has them second in the Eastern Conference.
Defense has been the calling card. Detroit has kept two opponents in a row below 100 points, most recently in a 110-94 NBA Cup win at Brooklyn on Friday. The Pistons dug out of an early double-digit hole in that one, forced 24 turnovers while giving up 12, and held the Nets to 38 points across the middle two quarters.
Charlotte sits at 3-4 and has dropped three straight. The teams met just days ago, on Oct. 28, when Cade Cunningham scored 30 in a 97-89 Detroit win and Brandon Miller had 31 for the Hornets.
Both sides are shorthanded. Center Jalen Duren remains out for Detroit with a hamstring injury, and Isaiah Joe is day to day with a sore hip. The Hornets list Grant Williams, Kylan Boswell, Kon Knueppel and Coby White as out.
