DETROIT, Mich. — The Detroit Red Wings held a two-goal lead over St. Louis with most of the third period to play Saturday night in Detroit and still lost, 5-4, as the Blues scored three times in less than five minutes.
Emmitt Finnie put Detroit up 4-2 with a power-play goal at 3:29 of the third. Pavel Buchnevich answered at 8:37 and Justin Barron tied it at 12:57. Aleksanteri Kaskimaki, 22, a Finn playing just his 11th NHL game, then scored the winner at 13:15, the first goal of his career.
Lucas Raymond scored once and set up another Detroit goal. J.T. Compher and Keegan Kolesar each scored for the first time this season, and Kolesar finally got on the board in his 14th game with the club. The Red Wings outshot St. Louis 28-15, but John Gibson stopped only 10 of the 15 shots he faced and fell to 4-5-1.
It was the second game since center Dylan Larkin, who asked for a trade in the offseason, was suspended with no pay for choosing to stay away until he is traded.
