CALEDONIA, Mich. — Wayne State had no answer for unbeaten Davenport on Saturday afternoon, falling 49-0 to the ninth-ranked Panthers at Pappas Stadium in Caledonia in a GLIAC game that left the Warriors at 0-8 overall and 0-4 in league play.
Davenport led 21-0 after one quarter and 35-0 at halftime. Running back Cephus Harris did most of the damage with 200 rushing yards and three touchdowns on 17 carries, and the Panthers outgained the Warriors 599 yards to 117, piling up 374 of them on the ground on a sunny, 63-degree day in front of 1,155 fans.
There were a few bright spots for the Detroit team. Dereon Foster picked off a pass for the first Wayne State interception of the season, redshirt freshman safety Dharon Flowers made the first interception of his career, and Luke Johnson led all players with 15 tackles. Griffin Nowak punted well, with kicks of 67 and 65 yards.
Next up for the Warriors is a home date at Tom Adams Field against Northern Michigan, with kickoff set for noon on Oct. 31.
