DETROIT, Mich. — Detroit Lions safety Kerby Joseph is finally back on a practice field. Joseph, sidelined for more than a year by a stubborn knee problem, took part in practice Wednesday for the first time this season.
Detroit kept the All-Pro on the Physically Unable to Perform list through the first seven weeks of 2026. His return starts a 21-day clock, and the team has until Nov. 18 to move him to the 53-man roster. If that does not happen, he would stay on the list for the rest of the year, though that outcome is rare once a player is practicing.
Coach Dan Campbell said Joseph has cleared every test so far, and that strength in the knee and thigh now matches the other leg. The next step is seeing how the knee responds to real football work, with swelling and next-day recovery the key checks.
Joseph first hurt the knee in 2025 training camp, played through it for about a month, and has not appeared in a game since Oct. 12, 2025, against Kansas City.
Fellow safety Brian Branch took the same route this fall and made his season debut against Green Bay on Oct. 25. The Lions play at Miami on Nov. 8 and then face New England in Munich, Germany, on Nov. 15.
