DETROIT, Mich. — Detroit Lions linebacker Jack Campbell spent Sunday night in a hospital for evaluation of a neck injury after he was carted off the Ford Field turf early in the fourth quarter of a 19-15 win over the Minnesota Vikings.
Campbell got hurt on the opening snap of the final quarter while helping bring down Vikings tight end T.J. Hockenson over the middle. He went to his knees as he closed in and took the hit with his facemask, then lay still on the field.
Medical staff needed several minutes to secure him before he was moved off on a cart. Players from both teams knelt nearby, and Lions teammates gathered around the cart as it left.
Head coach Dan Campbell said after the game that the team had no new details and was keeping the linebacker and his family in its thoughts. Quarterback Jared Goff called the scene frightening and noted that Campbell is a husband and father.
A couple of hours later, the team said Campbell was resting and would stay in the hospital overnight for more monitoring, with further updates to come.
