SOUTHFIELD, Mich. — A 21-year-old Southfield man is being held without bond on a first-degree murder charge in the death of his older brother, who was shot inside the home the two shared on Dorset Avenue.
Breylon Roberts also faces a felony firearm count in the Oct. 19 killing of Trey Cameron Roberts, 23, the Oakland County Prosecutor’s Office said. The murder count carries a possible sentence of life in prison, and the firearm count adds up to two years.
At his arraignment in Southfield’s 46th District Court, a judge refused bond. He is due back on Nov. 5 for a probable cause conference.
According to the prosecutor’s office, video from a neighboring security camera recorded 17 shots a little after 12:46 p.m., then showed Breylon Roberts walking out of the house. Southfield Police Department officers were called later that afternoon after a sister of the two men came home, found the body and dialed 911. Officers recovered 9mm casings from inside the house.
Oakland County Prosecutor Karen McDonald called the killing a tragedy and warned that gunfire brings harm no one can reverse. Southfield Police Chief Elvin Barren said his department will keep working with prosecutors on the case.
