DETROIT, Mich. — Last month ranks among the warmest Octobers Detroit has ever recorded. Preliminary National Weather Service figures put the city’s average daily temperature at 58.3 degrees, ninth on a list that goes back to 1874 and 5.3 degrees above normal.
The peak came on Oct. 13, when the thermometer climbed to 87. The record for the month still belongs to 1963, when the average reached 62.7 degrees.
It was a dry month, too. Detroit picked up 2.05 inches of rain against a normal of about 2.53, and the weather service reported no significant weather events across the region.
November is opening on a wetter note. The forecast calls for rain today with a high near 67 and gusts up to 30 mph, with a quarter to a half inch of rain possible. Highs drop to near 61 on Thursday and near 55 on Friday, with more chances of rain and a low around 38 Friday night.
